Most people spend a surprising amount of their lives waiting for the "right time"...
The right amount of money.
The right person.
The right circumstances.
The moment when they finally feel ready.
But what if that moment never comes?
Recently, Russell appeared on the reWORKING podcast with Tim Campbell and shared a perspective that really stuck with us:
"You don't have to have the confidence to do the venture. You do the venture you don't have the confidence to do, and take your confidence from it afterwards."
It's simple, but powerful, because so many of us have the relationship backwards.
We think confidence comes first, that we need to feel brave before we book the trip, confident before we start the business, certain before we try something new, but confidence is rarely the starting point.
More often than not, it's the reward.
Confidence isn't found. It's built.
Think about the first time you drove a car, started a new job, travelled somewhere unfamiliar or walked into a room where you didn't know anyone. You probably didn't feel confident beforehand? You maybe even felt a little terrified, BUT you did it anyway.
And afterwards? You realised you were capable of far more than you thought.
That's how confidence is built. Not through thinking, through doing.
The cost of waiting...
The problem with waiting until you feel ready is that life has a habit of moving on while you're waiting.
One day becomes next year.
Next year becomes someday.
And before you know it, the opportunity has passed.
We've met so many incredible people through the JOLT community, and there's one thing they all seem to have in common: they don't spend their lives sitting on the sidelines.
They say yes.
They stay curious.
They try things.
They keep moving forward.
Because they've learned that confidence comes from action, not the other way around.
Healthy ageing is about more than health.
At JOLT, we talk a lot about healthy ageing, but for us, it's not just about looking after your body. It's about having the confidence, wellbeing and mindset to actually make the most of the years ahead.
What's the point of looking after yourself if you're too afraid to live?
The goal isn't simply to add years to your life, it's to make sure those years are filled with experiences, adventures, laughter, connection and memories.
Life isn't something to watch from the sidelines, it's something to participate in.
Fully.
A little reminder:
If there's something you've been putting off...
A trip.
A hobby.
A challenge.
A conversation.
A dream.
Stop waiting for confidence to arrive! Confidence is waiting on the other side of the thing you're scared to do.
You only get one shot at this, and life is far too precious to spend it waiting for the perfect moment.
