Ageing: The ins and outs and the ups and downs

Let's have a chat about something we all go through - getting older. Yep, it's inevitable, but don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom! Ageing is just a part of life, but here's the thing: it doesn't have to mean sitting in an armchair in your later years. By prioritising your health-span, getting older can be a whole different ball game. It's possible to age on your own terms. There are two big things to understand about ageing that'll give you the lowdown on how JOLT works its magic. And hey, knowing these bits might just make you feel a bit more connected - we're all in this together, after all, through the good days and the not-so-good ones.

First, let’s address the two main components of ageing - copying and clearing out. Now, the copying and the clearing aren’t to blame, but when they are done badly, ageing is sped up. While this process is inevitable, (sorry, we wish it wasn’t too) there ARE ways we can slow it right down.

Imagine the body as a factory. It makes new cells every day, which are copies (of copies of copies) of the ones you had before.

Mistakes are made over time, which increases as you get older. These mistakes can lead to a number of illnesses and diseases.

The second part of the ageing process is the clearing out of old, dead cells or senescent cells as they’re otherwise known. As you get older the body doesn’t always waste energy clearing out these older cells, so they accumulate and spoil the other cells around them.

Preventing (and defeating) the ageing process involves improving both the accuracy of the copying process and fueling cells with the energy they need to successfully clear out the inaccurate and old cells.

So now we understand the two factors that contribute to ageing, how can we slow it down? A recent study presented by the American Heart Association has shown 8 different ways we can slow down the ageing process for up to a whopping 6 years! We have picked just a few of our favourites:

  1. Nailing the bedtime game - Through ensuring you get in those zzz’s consistently and substantially, your body has time to recover from the 9-5 and regenerate for the day ahead. Most importantly, sleeping well can lower blood pressure, relax blood vessels and improve blood flow - all which help slow the punches of ageing.

  2. Don’t eat s*** and move a bit! - Ok, the study didn’t quite say that but it wouldn’t be a JOLT blog without including our go-to line. The study claims doing regular physical activity can help slow the signs of ageing. How? Exercise boosts the HDL ("good") cholesterol and lowers levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. And the same types of activity will even fight some of the neurological and psychological changes of ageing.

  3. Staying away from the snack drawer - Although the cookies and cakes taste good, they add on unwanted, excess calories to our day, often leading to skipped meal times. This takes a big hit to our health, as we miss out on important nutrients and vitamins.

The other suggestions included quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling cholesterol, watching blood sugar and keeping an eye on your blood pressure.

We get it, managing a 9-5, keeping a social life, moving a bit, getting to bed early AND all of the above feels like a lot to juggle. But, there are ways to make things a tad easier, (and hopefully a bit more fun along the way.) Here at JOLT, we try to erase the boundaries and get creative. We don’t go on a morning run because we find them boring, we don’t only eat fruit and vegetables because where’s the jazz in that? And for our last secret? We do stay up late and party.

Instead of what’s perceived to be the ideal ‘healthy’ lifestyle, we get our exercise through dancing to our favourite tunes, taking the stairs, and to be honest, acting like a complete kid. Instead, we get creative with recipes that taste good but don’t do bad and we don’t put too much pressure on ourselves, because what’s life without balance?

However, that’s not all - I’m sure you saw it coming. Our JOLT formula. Packed with seven potent ingredients that have been scientifically proven to slow down the ageing process, it truly is a stride to a happier, healthier you. And get this, in our recent clinical trials, an impressive 100% of our participants reported not only deeper sleep but an improved sleep schedule, so if you’ve been tossing and turning each night, one of JOLT’s many benefits can fix that.

*Point 1 complete. 🫡

If you haven’t noticed already, evidence-based supplementation is truly stealing the scene in healthy living. In fact, it would make a great point 9 in the study we’ve been referring to. 😏
